In 2016, Michael Eade started a new series “Nurse Log,” in depiction of fallen trees which, as they decay, provide ecological facilitation to seedling. The fallen trees feed surrounding plants and animals for several decades, so the nurse log becomes a completely self-circulating eco-system. The logs are gilded in 22-23k gold leaf, copper or aluminum leaf, highlighting its metaphorical importance --- a participant and a contributor in the life cycle. The series also reflects Eade’s ongoing exploration of different mediums including sculpture, ceramics and prints. In 2005, Eade was invited by HERMÉS to design the holiday windows for it's New York Madison Avenue flagship store. His window installations included a series of tree-shaped reliefs and the Serapis a three-headed creature. Eade got his visual inspiration for the Serapis from Egyptian mythology, in which three heads signify three parts of Time: the vanished past; the present; the anticipated future. Inspired by the shape of the nurse log, Eade works with ceramic artists Eric Dolgins to fire a series of porcelain  ceramics at Greenwich House Pottery. The real plants can be planted in the ceramics and make it a growing sculpture.
